Which universities require the OMPT-A, what score do they want and how does it differ from the OMPT-B?
The OMPT-A (Online Mathematics Placement Test A) is the online maths proficiency test that universities in Europe — above all in the Netherlands — require from international applicants to economics, business and social-science programmes: 52 questions, 120 minutes, proctored from home. This guide covers which universities use the OMPT, how score thresholds are set, how the A differs from the B/C/D/E versions, the 2026 fees and the booking steps.
Universities that use the OMPT
From the partner list OMPT publishes (October 2026). Which programme requires which version (A, B, C, D, E…) is stated on the programme's admissions page and chosen at booking.

Applicants with a Turkish high-school diploma to Dutch economics, business, international business (IBA/IBEB), psychology and communication programmes are most often asked for the OMPT-A as maths proof; econometrics and engineering-leaning programmes point to the OMPT-B. The whole Dutch application process is on the study in the Netherlands page.
What score do you need?
The OMPT result is reported as a percentage and the threshold is set by the university, not the test. Published examples:
| Institution / programme | Requirement | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (in lieu of OMPT-E) | OMPT-A at least 65% (or OMPT-B 60%) | VU admissions page |
| Utrecht University (master's, HBO graduates) | OMPT-A at least 7.5 / 10 | UU admissions page |
| Mykolas Romeris University | OMPT-A at least 55% | MRU 2026 requirements |
| Arcada (Finland) | International Business → OMPT-A; IT → OMPT-B | Arcada application page |
In practice a safe target for Dutch research universities is 70% or above: most thresholds sit between 55% and 65%, but some programmes ask for more and exam-day variance needs a margin. Confirm the exact threshold on the programme's admissions page; we check it together in the initial consultation.
OMPT-A, B, C, D, E: what is the difference?
| Version | Questions / time | Scope | Typical programme |
|---|---|---|---|
| OMPT-A | 52 q / 120 min | Numbers, algebra, linear equations and systems, quadratics, functions, exponential and logarithmic functions, differentiation | Economics, business, social sciences |
| OMPT-B | 64 q / 150 min | All of A + integration + trigonometry | Econometrics, engineering, science |
| OMPT-C | 30 q / 120 min | Numbers, algebra, linear equations, geometry | Programmes with a basic maths requirement |
| OMPT-D | 20 q / 180 min | Quadratics, functions, exp-log, differentiation, trigonometry, geometry, integration (open-ended) | Advanced maths requirement |
| OMPT-E | 40 q / 120 min | A's algebra part + descriptive statistics, combinatorics, probability, distributions | Psychology, social sciences (statistics-heavy) |
F and G versions also exist (G includes physics/chemistry, used by engineering foundation programmes). Pick the version from the programme's admissions page; a score from the wrong version is not accepted and the fee is not refunded.

Source: OMPT pricing page (October 2026; prices can change). Book on omptest.org: create an account, choose the programme and version, pay and pick a date from the calendar. The test is taken from home, proctored via camera and screen share; the result arrives as a digital certificate and goes straight to the university. Retakes are possible; the waiting period and attempt limit are in OMPT's test rules — every attempt is charged again.
Preparation targets the question format rather than school topics: step-by-step answer entry, algebraic input and time pressure. The OMPT-A prep programme runs as a 4–8 week 1:1 plan.
