Start your AP Calculus AB journey the right way with a free level assessment and one-on-one consultation. Study with expert tutors on a fully personalised plan.
AP Calculus AB is an advanced high-school course administered by the College Board, equivalent to a first-semester university calculus course. It covers limits, derivatives and integrals, giving students the ability to analyse change and accumulation mathematically.
The exam has multiple-choice and free-response sections, with parts that require a graphing calculator and parts that do not. It is a foundational course for students heading into engineering, science and economics; a strong AP score can exempt you from a calculus course at many universities.
Every lesson is taught by expert tutors who know the AP Calculus AB format inside out and focus on exam strategy.

The AP Calculus AB exam has two sections and takes about 3 hours and 15 minutes:
45 questions · 1 hour 45 minutes · 50% of the exam score
6 questions (FRQ) · 1 hour 30 minutes · 50% of the exam score
Graphing calculator allowed on one part of each section, banned on the other
Limits, derivatives, integrals and differential equations
The AP Calculus AB exam is graded on a 1–5 scale, and a score of 3 or above is generally considered passing. The multiple-choice and free-response sections carry equal weight in the raw score, which is converted to the 1–5 scale. Many universities give credit for a 3, while selective engineering and science departments often expect a 4 or 5. Showing intermediate steps clearly on free-response questions directly affects the score.
AP Calculus AB suits high-school students with a strong algebra and pre-calculus foundation who are heading into quantitative fields. AP exams are held every year in May, so preparation usually spans the school year. With regular practice and work focused on the free-response format, gaps can be closed in the final months before the exam.
